Skilled Worker Class

Note: If you are applying under one of the 29 eligible occupations, as of July 1, 2011, a maximum of 10,000 federal skilled worker applications will be considered for processing in the following 12 months. Within the 10,000 cap, a maximum of 500 Federal Skilled Worker applications per eligible occupation will be considered for processing each year.

These limits do not apply to applications with an offer of arranged employment.

Points This immigration category falls in one of the most applied for category, and indeed, allows the majority of permanent residents into Canada. Applicants applying for this category of immigration are assessed on a point based selection system and to be eligible for a permanent residence status the applicant must achieve a maximum of 67 points. Immigrants applying for this category are assessed on the following criteria and depending on the number of points they earn out of 100, they accepted for entry into Canada:

Skills A person applying under this category is expected to have at least one year of full time work experience within the last ten years in one of the occupations listed in either Skill Type 0 or Skill level A or B of the National Occupational Classification (NOC). The NOC was developed by department of Human Resources and Social Development Canada. The NOC is divided into five categories:

 Skill Level-D  Elemental and laborers

Only experience in Skill Type 0 or Skill levels A or B are considered relevant for applicants in the Independent/Skilled Work Class.

Furthermore, you and your dependents ( if applicable), must pass the medical examinations and background checks before a visa can be issued to you, whether or not they are accompanying you. All, your dependents have to be mentioned in your application form.

Furthermore, you are required to provide an evidence of your funds when applying, for example, your bank statement indicating your past transactions and current balance. An independent applicant must have at least CAD $17,800.00 plus about CAD $3,500.00 for each dependent (spouse or child) to support yourself after landing in Canada.

This requirement can be relaxed by Visa Officers if you have a job waiting for you or your spouse in Canada or if you have a relative who will offer you a room and financial help until locating employment.
